LeMoyne-Owen College Memphis Alumni Association Hosts First Annual Bike Ride

Memphis, TN – June 15, 2021 – The LeMoyne-Owen College Memphis Alumni Association will host its first annual “Magician’s Ride” this Saturday, June 19, 2021, to raise scholarship funds for deserving students. The riders will pedal along the Mighty Mississippi River and through the heart of some of Memphis’s historical landmarks, including Martyrs Park, Stax Museum, Fourway Restaurant, and I AM A MAN PLAZA.

The event begins and ends at LeMoyne-Owen College’s Student Center with distance options of 15 and 25 miles. Some of the expected guests at the event include Dr. Vernell Bennett-Fairs, LeMoyne-Owen College President; Lee Harris, Shelby County Mayor; Dr. J. Lawrence Turner, Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church Senior Pastor; Dr. Willie Hernton, former Memphis Mayor; Van D. Turner, Jr., Shelby County Board of Commissioners; Tyrone Burroughs, Founder – First Choice Sales & Marketing Company; Melvin Burgess, Shelby County Assessor; and Dr. Michael L.W. Moore, Metropolitan Baptist Church Pastor.

Stanley Dowell, Bike Chairperson, stated: “We know colleges have more challenges and needs this year than ever before amid the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and this ride allows community leaders to help students start, continue, and complete their educational goals.”
