Mt. Olive Cathedral CME Church pledges $5,000 to LOC

LeMoyne-Owen College’s Homecoming 2018 kicked off with an inspiring and entertaining start Sunday, Oct. 21, at Mt. Olive Cathedral CME Church, which celebrated LeMoyne-Owen College Day.

It was the second straight year that Mt. Olive and its pastor Rev. Peris J. Lester, 1, have hosted LeMoyne-Owen. Toward the end of the service LOC supporter and Mt. Olive member Dr. Marieta Harris and Rev. Lester announced a $5,000 pledge to LOC.

Sunday’s service featured performances by the LOC Gospel Choir and inspirational addresses by Mr. LOC Fred Jones and LOC President Andrea Lewis Miller.

Dr. Terrell Strayhorn, LOC vice president for Academic Affairs, displayed his musical talents while accompanying the choir on piano, and his singing skills while introducing President Miller.

LOC students were invited to come to the front of the sanctuary, where they were asked to individually introduce themselves and state their majors.
