On Monday, January 17, 2022, at 10 am the LeMoyne-Owen College Memphis Alumni Association will host the 31st Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance. In 2021, the breakfast transitioned to a virtual event because of the pandemic. This year’s event will be aired LIVE on the LOCNAA YouTube page.

This year’s speaker is Reverend Dr. Harold Middlebrook. Dr. Middlebrook is an LOC Alum, Civil Rights Activist, and trusted friend of the late Dr. King. Dr. Middlebrook served as assistant pastor to Rev. Benjamin Hooks at Middle Baptist Church in Memphis and Middlebrook was on the strategy committee of the Community on the Move for Equality (COME), where he organized youth activities. Middlebrook was active throughout the Civil Rights Movement and was at the Lorraine Motel when Dr. King was assassinated. Middlebrook has remained active and both as a pastor in the church and politically.

“This is our 31st observance of the birthday of Dr. King. We are grateful that we have a speaker that worked closely with Dr. King and continues that work today. This event was birthed by alum, Myron Lowery. We appreciate him and his vision to ‘keep the dream alive’ but this event has evolved to bring alums and friends together from around the world. This event offers new ways to support the College‚Äôs mission while reflecting on the legacy of Dr. King,” said LOCMAA President, Sylvester Fulton.
