From the Director
Dear W.E.B. Du Bois Scholar:
Welcome to the W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars Program. The Honors staff and I are extremely pleased that you have selected LeMoyne-Owen College as your school of choice to pursue your academic goals and to lay the foundation for your future success.
As one of our nation’s oldest Historically Black Colleges and Universities, we are confident you will quickly discover you have made an excellent choice in LOC and in joining the W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars Program. As a Du Bois scholar, you will enjoy exclusive access to resources and opportunities designed to challenge and inspire you.
As a teacher, coach and administrator for more than 50 years, I consider it an honor and a privilege to have this opportunity to work with you. High-ability learners are my passion and I continually strive to ensure you and your fellow gifted students benefit from support, programs and curricula that empower you to think critically, draw connections between areas of knowledge and interest, and demonstrate your learning in productive ways.
As you embark on your collegiate learning journey, we want to help you make learning—deep learning—your priority. Rather than simply focusing on a grade as your goal, let’s explore how you can make deep understanding and mastery your goal. When you do this, the grades will follow and your learning will endure well beyond your graduation from LeMoyne-Owen College. We are here to help and serve you. Again, welcome to the W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars Program!
