Community Service and Engagement

LeMoyne-Owen College has an extensive history of serving community agencies, schools,   and organizations as we prepare students for rich, productive lives in the workplace and beyond.  W.E.B. Du Bois scholars are expertly prepared for citizenship, service and careers through community service and engagement.  By serving others, scholars develop the ability to lead, to communicate effectively with diverse populations, and to understand complex issues within their community.

The W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars Program provides honors students the opportunity to contribute to the common good and take what they learn in the classroom and during Program activities and connect and contribute this knowledge to the broader community.   Participation also promotes civic responsibility in each scholar by providing opportunities for them to serve as leaders and mentors, communicate shared interests and passions, and collaborate to shape and redefine success for future generations.

All scholars are required to engage in community service.  Scholars must complete the Community Service/Volunteer Form and submit it to the Honors office prior to community service and engagement.

Contact the W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars Program via at 901-435-1286, fax at 901-435-1764 or email at honors@loc.edu.  Scholars and program applicants also are welcome to visit the W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars Center at 804 Saxon Avenue, just west of the student center.
