Johnny Rudd played little league baseball in 1960 with the Belmont Warriors team. As a 9th grader he started on the Douglas High baseball team. During his 10th-12th grade years he was a starter and was selected to play on the All-Memphis High School Team. He graduated from Douglas High in 1963. From there he attended LeMoyne-Owen College. In 1965 he began to play semi-pro baseball with the Springdale Warriors. Later, in the 1970’s and 80’s Johnny was the assistant baseball coach for LeMoyne-Owen College. He also was the director of intramural sport for State Technical Institute in Memphis. I
n 1987 he took over the Memphis Park Commission Youth and Adult Athletics Program and remained there until 2005. He went on to coach in the semi-pro league for junior, senior, and major boy’s teams. His record includes over 500 wins and 2 state championships. He currently coaches the Memphis RBI Warriors and the LeMoyne-Owen Magicians baseball team.
